"The friendship stone" Carnelian is found in England, Australia, Oregon USA and India. It is a member of the agate family, a chalcedony. The name is derived from the Latin word ‘carnis’ (of the flesh). It is an exquisite, translucent rich, deep orange/red gemstone, and has a similar look and feel to garnet but has warmer tones and is less heavy. Carnelian is believed to encourage friendship and cheerfulness, to protect the wearer from evil, to ground energies and concentration and to strengthen family love. It is used to help promote understanding and vigour and overcome negativity, encourage confidence, creativity and passion, to bring wisdom and combat depression and sluggishness.
Traditionally this gemstone is also said to be helpful
for lower spine problems, checking bleeding and relieving menstrual
cramps, rheumatism, infertility or impotence and for strengthening the
voice. The Carnelian has been associated with the August moon. It is the stone of the 2nd chakra. It has often been used to make cameos and is excellent for bead jewellery.
